David Alan Grier has been a comedy fixture for two decades. Wow. You didn’t know he was that old, did you? Well, now you know. But age brings wisdom, and the comedian/actor known as DAG is wise and funny and brings both of those things into print with the publication of his new book, “Barack Like Me.” Would you like to win a copy? Since you’re already reading this, then you’re in luck!
I’ve compiled 10 of the many great highlights from DAG’s onscreen career. 10. “Barack Like Me,” the book!
What better place to start than the here and the now, and let DAG tell you a little bit about his book.
9. Let DAG crank your yank!
This is a nice example of the times in which Mr. Grier took to the phone lines and cranked that call, then let Comedy Central take his call and make it surrealistic via puppets. YES. We’re talking “Crank Yankers.”
if you’d like something more recent in your DAG puppetry, then check out this clip in which he voices the puppet of Kobe Bryant, for Nike, looking for his rings.
8. DAG goes to the UFC for advice on “DWTS.”
David Alan Grier thought that Rampage Jackson might have good advice for him on a “reality” show. How cute.
7. DAG plays “Celebrity Millionaire.”
Is that his final answer?
6. DAG reflects on getting the boot from “DWTS.”
Look at how serious he took this dancing TV show! That’s got to be worth more comedy points, right?
5. Al MacAfee, Hall Monitor
This was one of DAG’s characters from “In Living Color.” That this is number five tells you how much more there is to talk about.
4. Loomis Simmons Psychic Line!
I never got to call Dionne and find out what her psychic friends had to say. But why would I, when we have Loomis Simmons?
3. DAG as the Rev. Al Sharpton.
It’s amazing that Sharpton could still be seen in public after this.
2. Calhoun Tubbs
In Calhoun Tubbs, DAG created a character so good that Dave Chappelle appropriated it for the opening of his breakthrough Comedy Central series, “Chappelle’s Show.” Would you like to hear a song about it? Here it goes! Thankyouverymuch!!!
1. Two Snaps Up!
DAG played flamboyant film critic Antoine Merriweather on the “In Living Color” sketch “Two Snaps Up.” You knew it. You loved it. You still love it, whether it’s politically correct or incorrect. Sit back and relax…hated it? Loved it!
