We know some comedians in Queens who like to get together and play basketball. Well, you know that saying about history repeating itself. Let’s just hope that those guys don’t end up doing what these guys in Hollywood did 31 years ago. And with that, we proudly present The Comedy Store Basketball Team Circa 1978. Among the players: David Letterman, Tim Reid (Venus Flytrap on “WKRP in Cincinnati”), Jimmie Walker (J.J. on “Good Times”), John Witherspoon (the “Friday” movies) and Tom Dreesen (Frank Sinatra’s opening act). Here’s some rare footage of Letterman being interviewed on local TV in Los Angeles in the 1970s, and here are great moments in David Letterman interviews. Is it a coincidence, though, that the guys who were standing were more likely to have comedy careers that are still standing? Discuss.
