Have banjo, will travel!
Give Ed Helms a minute and he’ll give you a song. That’s his unspoken promise to you, the consumer. Unspoken, of course, because he is singing. Always singing, this guy! Fortunately for all of us, he is both talented and funny. And so it was, that Helms took to “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” on Thursday night to promote his upcoming film, “The Goods,” although he spent even more time reflecting on his current summer comedy blockbuster, “The Hangover,” and also sharing his love of music with Conan and the audience. Conan challenged Helms to show off his scat-singing skills with The Jonas Brothers, who just so happened to be sitting on the couch next to him. We took it one step further and compiled a list of videos that prove Helms is better than the JBs. Bippity-bo-bop-skiddle-dee-doo…
8. Head-to-Head With The Jonas Brothers on “Conan”
The appearance is legendary… okay maybe only legendary for us in the Comedy.com office.
7. Big Pimpin’ As A Member Of The Big Ups
But that’s not the first time Ed Helms has graced us with his singing, and also his musical chops on both the banjo and the piano. Here he is with his “boy band,” Big Ups (so much better than the Jonas boys), in a scene from the upcoming movie, “The Goods” (out Aug. 14):
6. Pondering The Soul Of Las Vegas Tigers With “Stu’s Song” From “The Hangover”
You may also remember hearing him tickle the ivories (that’s a technical term) in this scene from “The Hangover” to give the fellas just the morale boost they needed, in “Stu’s Song”:
5. Giving A Great Elton John Tribute
Earlier this year, Helms performed at the Telluride Comedy Festival and showed off a pretty mean Elton John impersonation, and by “pretty mean,” we mean pretty funny:
4. Collaborating With Creed
And who woulda thunk that adding Helms to the cast of “The Office” would result in so many opportunities to break into song? Well, now we all know. He gets everyone into the act at one point or another. This summer he strapped on the banjo and joined Creed — yes, creepy Creed — to sing a lullaby to Angela and her unborn child. So soothing, right?
3. An Impromtu Performance at “The Office” Convention
Even from the start, though, the fans wanted Helms (Andy) to seduce Angela. They clamored for him to serenade her way back in 2007 at The Office Convention in Scranton, Penn. He happily obliged with a few bars of an ABBA classic:
2. Acting And Singing On “The Office”
When “Andy” and “Dwight” both agreed to give up on Angela, they set their sights on the new “Office” secretary, played by comedian Ellie Kemper. And hilarity ensued, thanks to a John Denver tune. Take us home, to the place, we belong….
1. Highlighted In The Best Fan Video On The Net
But as we said earlier, Helms has gotten everyone to break into song at one point or another on set. There is perhaps no better evidence of this than this fan-made mix tape, called “The Office Musical.” Sit back, enjoy and just try not humming along at one point or another:
