Today In Comedy News

Tuesday July 21, 2009 9:45 PM

In our unending effort to bring you more funny in your day from comedians near and far, we’re going to start providing you with a handy roundup to news from the comedy world. So what was new today?

The Just For Laughs Montreal comedy festival announced its lucky batch of “New Faces” who will be performing this week in special industry showcases. Scan the names and faces to see if any of your favorite up-and-coming stand-ups are getting their big breaks this week, or simply start memorizing this list to see who should start paying attention to.

Say what you want about the movie Funny People when it comes out at the end of the month, but we think Judd Apatow really has poured a lot of heart and comedy geekdom into his movie — at least that’s what we gained out of watching one of the great documentaries he has shown on Comedy Central this week.

John Heffron’s new hourlong special debuted on Comedy Central over the weekend. We already showed you preview clips from John Heffron’s “Middle Class Funny,” but it wasn’t so funny to Heffron (see above Tweet) when he saw that Comedy Central had edited out his new stuff in favor of “classic” material. We see a broader lesson here.

And an animated clip for a pilot imagining John Oates (yes, of Hall & Oates) having adventures with his mustache (yes, his mustache, voiced by Dave Attell!) resurfaced early this morning on Funny or Die, after disappearing two weeks earlier. We have an update.
