Updated 2/9: We love feeling the power of the Internet on our fat little frame and just got another dose thanks to nominee Michelle Collins. As mentioned below, she was our wild card as we couldn’t find much of her on the web but as she says, “A thorough googling of myself brought me to your site. As far as on-stage stand-up, I still haven’t uploaded anything… however, here is me doing my “thing” at Westminster last year… no I was not a contestant.” We love the fact that Michelle can make us laugh in an email and also writes for Best Week Ever so we’ll have to update our list as more emerges on everyone.
The Emerging Comics of New York Awards has been updated in name and leadership over the past couple of years, but has always been consistent in their lone goal: to find the funniest people in New York city so the industry folk will have something to talk about in their weekly staff meetings without going out at night. So here’s to you industry with the Best Female Standup Comedian Nominees 2008 ECNY Awards. And would Michelle Collins please stand up because we can’t find any video and she’s our wild card…but we like what we hear.
We’ve loved Michelle’s energy, attitude and hair since we first saw her at the HBO comedy festival in Aspen, and have her winning via a slight margin over Claudia Cogan.
We’ve never seen Claudia until now, but we’re intrigued because she’s the type of comic that excites you to hear what’s next. She’s also got an edge and a presence and welikeitalot.

Jackie Collins really grew on us as the set went on and we appreciate her unique style and point of view.
We like Giulia’s style using her life as setups, and look forward to seeing where she’s at in a couple of years.
